ChoirConnect Program: Frequently Asked Questions

ChoirConnect Interest Form

ChoirConnect Toolkit

What is ChoirConnect?

The 2012 World Choir Games provides a unique opportunity for people from around the world to learn about one another’s cultures, interests and ways of life. ChoirConnect is designed to unite Cincinnati USA choirs, arts groups, schools and civic and cultural organizations (Host Groups) with 2012 World Choir Games participating choirs that will be traveling to Cincinnati (Visiting Choirs). Matches will be made based on background and interests.

This is a great opportunity for Visiting Choirs and Host Groups to interact, learn and build friendships with one other prior to, during and after the 2012 World Choir Games.

Who can participate in ChoirConnect?

Cincinnati USA choirs, arts groups, schools and civic and cultural organizations (Host Groups) and 2012 World Choir Games participating choirs that will be traveling to Cincinnati (Visiting Choirs) who are interested in learning about different cultures and forging long-lasting friendships are welcome and encouraged to complete the ChoirConnect Interest Form.

Does ChoirConnect cost money?

There is no enrollment fee to participate in ChoirConnect. Any expenses incurred during the program are the responsibility of the participating choirs.

Are we guaranteed a match once the interest form is completed?

ChoirConnect will make every attempt to match as many interested Host Groups with Visiting Choirs as possible. We strongly encourage you to apply, though there is no guarantee there will be available matches for all interested applicants (numerous factors may prevent a connection, i.e. volume of applicants, availability of participants, etc.).

When will we know if we are matched?

Designated leaders of the participating groups will be notified of their matches with a welcome email that will provide a brief biography of your matched Host Group or Visiting Choir. After that, the connection is up to you. Check out the ChoirConnect toolkit for useful communication tips.

What is expected of ChoirConnect participants?

ChoirConnect encourages participants to find creative ways to interact with each other before the 2012 Games, preferably once or twice a month, through email, Skype, personal letters, social media and/or other forms of communication. What you share and how you communicate is your choice. We encourage you to take this opportunity to learn about one another’s culture by sharing aspects of your daily lives.

In order to prepare Visiting Choirs for what to expect when they arrive in Cincinnati USA, Host Groups can share information about Cincinnati including its history, people, culture and places. Host Groups are encouraged to share with Visiting Choirs their own favorite experiences or places to visit in the city, favorite foods, images of the city and stories about Cincinnati that will help visitors learn about the city and feel at home while they are here.

In addition to the available resources, ChoirConnect is available to help Host Groups connect Visiting Choirs with the information they need. Email ChoirConnect at ChoirConnect@2012worldchoirgames.com and we’ll help you.

What if we haven’t heard from our match after being notified we are paired?

Please contact ChoirConnect at ChoirConnect@2012worldchoirgames.com and we’ll do our best to help get you connected.

What if our matched group doesn’t speak the same language as we do?

The official language of the 2012 World Choir Games is English, however, we will strive to make matches based on language preferences.

Is it okay to exchange items or give gifts?

Yes. At your discretion, you may exchange gifts with your matched group. Any costs incurred are the responsibility of the participants.
