Some of Cincinnati's most visible choirs announced today that they have registered for participation in the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati USA.
The Cincinnati Boychoir Tour Choir, Cincinnati Children's Choir, Cincinnati Kolping Saengerchor, Cincinnati Men's Chorus, MUSE Women's Chorus and the Fairfield High School Choraliers all registered this past week.

Fairfield, which will participate this weekend in the National Show Choir finals in Indianapolis, announced last week that it would be the first to sign up for the new Show Choir category, which is being added for the 2012 Games.
The Southern Gateway Chorus was the first choir to officially register, and the Cincinnati Sound Chorus was second. Both will participate in the Barbershop category, which also is being added for the first time in 2012.
"It is so exciting to see some of the region's elite choirs show their leadership by being the first choirs in the world to register for the 2012 World Choir Games," says Lori Lobsiger, director of North American Markets for INTERKULTUR, the Germany-based organization that owns and produces the World Choir Games.
"The Games have been talked about for well over a year now, and it's great to see this kind of commitment. We have had choirs all over the country - and the world - express interest in the 2012 Games, and we look forward to having others at home and abroad sign up."

GLOBALHARMONY
Music teacher, choral director & ... pyrotechnician?

We are all connected by our love of music and have the unique opportunity to learn from one another's cultures, interests and ways of life. Each month PRELUDE will highlight a music enthusiast from around the world.
Meet Anne-Marie Chessman (United Kingdom)
Anne-Marie, tell us about your country.
The United Kingdom (UK) is such a great place to live. Especially at the moment as we have the royal wedding (April 29) and everyone is preparing street parties and celebrations.
What is your favorite traditional food?
Sunday roast dinner (which must be eaten with Yorkshire pudding!)
What is the biggest misconception of your country?
1. That all Londoners eat fish and chips from a newspaper!
2. That it rains all of the time - it's been sunny for the last three weeks! What are famous must-see UK hotspots for tourists?
There are so many fun spots to visit! Some include: the Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, Lake District, Dublin (with a Guinness!), Cardiff Millennium Stadium, Loch Ness, Hogwarts ...
Describe a typical weekend with your friends and family.
A typical weekend involves teaching clarinet and saxophone in the morning and then conducting a concert with one of my choirs or performing with my band. Later that night, I will head into town to grab a drink with my friends. A relaxing Sunday typically follows, that involves eating a roast/BBQ dinner and catching up on television shows.
What do you do for a living?
I'm a music teacher and a musical director. Most people don't know that I am also a qualified pyrotechnician!
Tell me more about your choirs.
I conduct two choirs at the moment. One is the Hertfordshire Community Youth Choir (HCYC), which is for members aged 7-21 and currently has around 25 members (although we're always looking for more). To date, we have performed at the O2 Arena in London and alongside the Brit award winners Blake, on their national tour. This year, the HCYC will be singing at the local world music festival.
I also conduct the Stevenage Ladies Choir (SLC), which is for ladies aged 16+ and has a current membership of around 72. The choir was formed over 50 years ago and has won many competitions over the years. The ladies perform both in the UK and in Europe raising money for charities.
For more information on either choir please visit my website at
