We
are all connected by our love of music and have the unique opportunity to learn
from one another's cultures, interests and ways of life. Each month PRELUDE will
highlight a music enthusiast from around the world.
Meet Bridget
O'Shanassy
(New
Zealand)
Tell us a little more about yourself,
Bridget.
I am a choral
director, vocal coach, barbershop director and classroom music
teacher. I'm also a mother of two teenage boys. I love music and teenagers. I
am passionate about giving teens confidence through singing and believe that
this can be a gateway to learn more about yourself.
Tell us more about your
country.
New Zealand is well known for
its clean, green image and this is also what I love about it. My other
passion is what we call "going bush," which means hiking in the back country and
experiencing the beautiful New Zealand landscape.
You mentioned you're a music teacher. Will your school choir be
participating in the 2012 Games in
Cincinnati?
Yes!
We embrace our indigenous language and culture
by including Maori in our song choice
and will bring some local repertoire with us to
Cincinnati.
What are you most looking
forward to about your abroad experience?
Many
of the choir members (including myself) have not traveled abroad extensively, so
this trip is an opportunity to experience all things Cincinnati and
also to see other parts of the United States. We can't wait to experience the
cultural feast and fellowship of the Games. |
